Stephanie Shelton

Alex has always been my go-to plumbing guy. I have used him for many years. I absolutely love how patient and knowledgeable he is about his profession. I like that even though I’m a female, he takes the time to explain to me exactly what needs to be done, so I can understand it. I have recommended him to various friends and family and they have always given positive feedback on his work. Another thing that is very important to me is punctuality and communication. You do not always get that with contractors. Alex, hands down, is spot on with both of them.

You won’t be disappointed in his work.”

With over 20 years of specialized plumbing experience, I provide my clients with honest and dependable solutions guided by International Plumbing Code.

With that in mind, I like to inform my clients up front of a few things that I am NOT:

  • I am not a carpenter.

  • I am not a mason.

  • I am not an electrician.

  • I am not a handyman.

I won't offer services outside my expertise or try to sell you something I can't deliver.

The one thing I live and breathe is plumbing.

My mission with Antigua Plumbing is to become the trusted partner for all your plumbing needs, by delivering unmatched craftsmanship, exceptional customer service, and innovative plumbing solutions that prioritize safety and functionality.

When I moved to Antigua, almost 10 years ago,

I didn't anticipate utilizing my plumbing skill set here. However, over time, I began to recognize the pressing demand for quality plumbing. Even newly-built high-end homes were lacking in functional plumbing. I was shocked to find such outdated, inefficient plumbing methods being used regularly in Antigua.

Hence the inception of Antigua Plumbing.

Experience you can rely on. No guessing involved.

I began working in the plumbing industry as a helper at the age of 21. I eventually expanded my education with the Union Local 286 out of Texas, and completed a 5 year apprenticeship that included college coursework to truly understand the fundamental science behind plumbing.

Over the next two decades, I worked hands-on for reputable mechanical contractors such as Wattinger, Brandt, and TDI, gaining a wealth of knowledge across various projects. My expertise and skill sets encompass pipe-fitting, residential service plumbing, leak-locating, and new construction plumbing across industrial, commercial, and residential domains.

 FAQs

  • The short answer: improper plumbing techniques. Not having the proper sized P-trap for the fixture will cause methane gas to seep up out of the drain and into your home. This isn’t just inconvenient, it’s dangerous for your health.

  • Yes. Unlike more developed regions, Guatemala doesn’t have sewage processing plants. Instead, sewage is gradually filtered out via a septic-like system, which cleans the sewer water throughout a series of multiple steps. When you continuously flush toilet paper, it is very easy to clog your system, which can lead to breaking tile to resolve a major back up.

  • Many times this can be caused by a foreign object stuck in the toilet p-trap. However, in Guatemala, it is common for homes to not be built with proper ventilation, which is enough to prevent proper water flow in your toilet.

  • In short, no. While I do install and plumb water pumps, it is more common here for the manufacturer or an electrician to service or repair the actual pump, since it is an electrical fixture. I can recommend a good electrician to help you though.

  • In a perfect world, conventional tank water heaters should be serviced every 6 months to 1 year, and tankless water heaters as needed depending on water quality. Signs that your water heater needs servicing: “boiled egg smell” coming from your water, low hot water pressure, leaks, new unfamiliar noises at the water heater, debris in water that looks like colorful, crushed seashells.

  • Yes, by installing a proper filtration system that is serviced regularly.

  • Absolutely not. Different sized pipes should be used strategically in new construction to create pressure throughout your home.

  • I serve Antigua proper and surrounding areas. This includes, but is not limited to: Jocotenango, Panorama, San Pedro las Huertas, San Miguel Duenas, San Bartoleme Becerra, Santa Ana, Ciudad Vieja, San Lorenzo el Cubo, San Felipe de Jesus, Pastores, Milpas Altas.

  • While I do have an hourly rate, I also have flat rate fees for certain common services. For new construction services, fees are determined by the scope of the work, square footage, and the number of fixtures.
